Our Mission

Concord Pilates was opened in 2011 by Mara Sievers to create a space for diverse yet like-minded individuals who want to make a change in their lives. The studio was sold to Forest and Blaze in 2019, but our mission remains the same!

We believe in not going it alone. We believe in guidance. We are not a gym: in a gym setting, you’re left alone. And alone, everything is so much harder. We believe in a community of mutual encouragement and respect.

We believe in an environment that empowers you to take control of your health and fitness and ultimately to transform your life.

We believe in a judgment- and criticism-free space. We accept and support you every step of the way. We hope that, through our instruction, we can enhance and deepen your experience.

Pilates is more than a series of exercises to develop core control. Pilates is a specific way of moving and living that engages your mind, body, and soul.

We believe in your power to reclaim your body, feel good every day, and show up for your life.

We believe in you!

Why Pilates?

Pilates For Injury Prevention and Recovery

We are excited to work with your doctor, physical therapist, or chiropractor to helping you transition from rehab into daily activities after your injury or surgery! Pilates’ active approach to post-rehabilitation puts the tools for your continued recovery into your own hands (under the careful guidance of a highly trained teacher).

Pilates for Performance Improvement

You’re active and you like challenging your body. You’d like to be faster on the bike, smoother on your skis, more precise on the golf course, and generally like to beat your own personal records. Pilates cleans up your movement, fine-tunes your skills and makes you a better athlete. Due to its low impact exercises and low repetition focus, Pilates is the perfect way to cross-train any sport. Make your recovery days count.

Pilates For Health

Pilates is a great whole body workout without impact or strain on your joints. No muscle will remain unused,  while keeping the focus on balancing asymmetries. No mindless repetition, instead well designed focused full-body movements that honor your body’s needs, strengths and weaknesses. The goal of Pilates is to leave feeling better than before you stepped into the studio, not exhausted and drained.

Why Us?

The Concord Pilates Difference

You’ve probably heard that old adage, “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.”  When it comes to Pilates and your health, it goes double.

Pilates is an experience of a lifetime, an extraordinarily effective way to look after the health and fitness of your mind and body. It will bring balance and strength to your life and make it so that you can move through your life with greater ease and mobility.

We are here to guide you into better movement, to feel better than ever before. We believe so strongly in the Pilates system that we are committed to doing it the way its creator,  Joseph Pilates, intended. Large workout sessions are fine for many activities, but Pilates is built around your individuality.

We ARE a good fit for you, if...

  • You need guidance in choosing the best, most efficient, most appropriate exercises for you.

  • You appreciate a highly trained and skilled teacher to keep her eyes on you and make sure your form is excellent at all times.

  • You need help with your posture in everyday life.

  • You have a specific goal and want help achieving it sooner rather than later.

  • You appreciate an open minded, generous and no-judgement environment.

  • You like to laugh (also about yourself). We like to have fun, while working hard.

  • You're looking for a different workout than anything you've done before.

  • You need expertise more than motivation.

  • You want answers why your body doesn't work or feel the way it should. There is always a reason, and we'll find it.

  • You want to be a better runner, cyclist, hiker, swimmer, golfer, skier, etc.

  • You appreciate squeaky clean facilities, high-end Pilates equipment and top notch customer service.

We are NOT a good fit if...

  • You're looking for the cheapest way to get fit.

  • You think it's fine if the instructor works out with you. We don't think we'd be doing a good job in teaching you then. We work out in our own time.

  • You like competition. We're honoring - I would even say celebrating - our individuality.

Our Vision

At Concord Pilates, we truly believe in the vision of Joseph Pilates, the creator of the Pilates Method. Pilates as a movement practice is built around a person's individuality. If what you want is the highest quality Pilates training, training that can shift your body and your mind and even your life, you have come to the right place.

How we do things here

At the heart of the Pilates method is a focus on each individual and his or her particular movement patterns. This is why we emphasize individuality in all our sessions, which will give you the transformational experience that turns you into the best version of yourself.

Pilates includes exercises on different pieces of apparatus and body weight exercises on a mat (mostly as homework). This is how Joseph Pilates taught, and how he achieved such incredible results with his clients. These incredible results are the reason that Pilates became such a worldwide phenomenon and not just a fad.

We strive to stay in line with this original method as much as possible. We do our best to offer affordable sessions that also honor the truest form of Pilates. Please know that while we might have some rules you could consider strict, it is not because we want to bore you or slow your progress. Rather, we have formed these requirements because we know that unless you build a good foundation, you will not see the results you want. We want to make sure that each person receives the safest and most beneficial practice possible.

As with any good instructors, we are here to show you the correct way to do each movement. We do not want you to invest precious time, effort and money and then never know if you are doing an exercise incorrectly. We want to help you get results. We will hold you accountable when you need it. We are honest. We will never promise you something that's unrealistic.

The reason we get up in the morning

is to help you to find a less painful, more comfortable, more efficient, more graceful way to move. We take this very seriously, and we know you do, too.

You will get out of your Pilates exercise what you are ready to put into it.

We are so grateful to have the opportunity to help you change your life to be as healthy, strong, and pain-free as possible. We need to do this together. If you ever feel as though you're not getting your money's worth, or if you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to come to us! We are here for you.

For those of you who resonate with what we are doing, thank you for being here. We are even more grateful to you as we work hard in this challenging economy to grow Concord Pilates into a well respected studio.

Most of all, we need to do this together. Please don't hesitate to come to us with any concerns or questions about our vision, the class schedule, or anything else.

Thank you so very much for being part of this adventure.
